El-Hazard starts out with an oh-so-typical story of a Japanese high school student who suddenly gets involved in space/time travel, but from there unravels a brilliant plot involving war and great evils of a past technological society that managed to destroy itself. Since then, a new civilization has evolved, blissfully unaware of their own true heritage until it is too late. It gets used against them by an angry tribe of people living in El-Hazard who, after they had been dragged there unwillfully by the ancient civilization's greatest war toy, wish to destroy them all... |
When Fujisawa panics and runs from his own marriage, they oddball combination of Earth and El-Hazard crew get back together once again on a goal to find him, where they accidently tread upon yet another of the ancient society's dark secrets of evil. As well as two more of their hate-filled creations, that, when combined, form the ultimate tool of destruction. |
I'll note that while this is the last official series to have been produced for the main El-Hazard chain, it does not end the story. Whether this is due to loss of popularity of the show to the point of cancellation or if there simply was no further intent, Magnificent World 1 blantantly defines Makoto getting home, so we know it all ends well. All I can say is, I think this actually leaves a gateway to all of our imaginations, to travel as far and as high as we'd like. |
Makoto is essentially a science geek who builds a device that, through Jinnai's tampering, suddenly sucks them all into El-Hazard. Fatora has ceased to exist, leaving Allielle open to ... wander. This is often the only series I ever see make it into a typical video store, which means most people never see the OAV's. It's worth a few laughs, and does contain some universal El-Hazard goodness. But I still recommend everyone see the first OAV, if nothing else! |
The mangas follow some of the better parts of OAV1, and adding a few extra tidbits to the story where some gaps existed (whether or not a person takes theses "gap-fillers" as "literal" is entirely up to the discretion him/her, of course!) |
For possibly the first time ever on an English site, I present to you this very interesting trinket of El-Hazard. It doesn't really have the makings of some revolutionary video game (and hardly used the Saturn's power), but for the sheer fact that it has an all-original soundtrack (being built in the Sound Track site section) and all original art even featuring a few interspersed fully animated scenes with 100% [Japanese] voicing throughout, it's almost a tragedy how it got lost in time! |
Or rather, how much Rob's wallet will shrink to get this stuff ;p |
