Locales/El-Hazard
From EHOL
El-Hazard
is the Magnificent World. A world of beauty, mystery, and danger and is located
in another dimension. Characters only appear able to access El-Hazard by some form
of Interdimensional transportation. However, it may be that El-Hazard is located
within the same dimension or universe as Earth, but in another solar system, galactic
arm, or even a different galaxy. It may be that interdimensional travel is simply
a way of folding space so as to travel great distances and to different times rather
quickly.
El-Hazard is a planet similar to Earth. It has several of the same types of ecosystems
that Earth has like forests, jungles, deserts, mountains, oceans, etc. The air and
gravity seem similar, though there are probably subtle differences. The planet even
supports of race of beings that is indistinguishable from Earth-born humans.
However, for all the similarities, there are thousands of differences. The planet
is home to thousands of unusual species of both plants and animals. There is more
than one intelligent species that control the planet. There is also the matter of
the large artificial satellite that hangs in the sky, along with the natural satellite
that shares the sky.
The story of El-Hazard focuses on one particular region of the planet. An area in
which a giant body of water, called the Holy River of God, splits the land into
two. On western side of the river lie the lands of the Alliance, a group of nations
who have a united to work together. On the eastern side lies the land of the Bugrom,
an intelligent species of giant insectoids.
For the areas inhabited by humans explored by the El-Hazard story, it would seem
that the peoples have developed a civilization very similar to the Middle-eastern
cultures of Earth, though with some rather unique and large differences. It is not
known if all the humans living on the planet share a similar culture, but it wouldn't
be surprising if one explored beyond the Alliance controlled lands, that he or she
found races and cultures with very different styles of dress, technology and beliefs.
All references made to El-Hazardian culture are made considering only the nations
within the Alliance since that is the only area that the series explores.
