Locales/The Holy River of God
From EHOL
Also
known as the Great Saint River. This is a giant waterway that divides most
of the planet of El-Hazard. It splits off into several small tributaries and flows
into a much larger body of water which may or may not be called something different.
It may be that the entire body of water, no matter how wide it gets is called the
River of God.
The river serves several purposes. First, it serves as a chief waterway for trade
and travel in El-Hazard. Most of the Nations in the Alliance have cities located
on the river, or on one of its tributaries. Second, it serves as a natural border
and boundary between the Alliance and the Bugrom Empire with each side holding residence
on one side of the river.
When one watches The Wanderers, one may notice that the River of God gets
a lot more focus than it did in the OVA timeline. In The Wanderers, the river
is made out to be as a dangerous obstacle. They make it out as that Humans cannot
cross the river without undertaking great risks and that many who have tried have
met their end. The Bugrom seem to have no problems or at least fewer problems navigating
the river due to their natural insect instincts which allow them to sense shifts
in the air currents and weather patterns.
The dangerous of the River of God cannot be applied to, or at least, applied to
as much, to the OVA timeline. While there are dangers inherent to navigating any
body of water, the cast seems to have no large problems navigating their air/water
skimmer on the river as they approach the Forbidden Island, which is located somewhere
in the larger areas of the River.
