Locales/Shinonome Prefectural High School

From EHOL

Shinonome Prefectural High School is located in Shinonome City, in Shinonome-cho on the planet Earth.

Shinonome High (or Shino High as it is sometimes referred to) can be described as a 'typical' Japanese High school. What that means is that most likely it houses grades 10-12 and it works on preparing students for entrance into a university.

Most likely Shino High is a public high school, which means a couple of things. Since education in Japan is only compulsory up to the 9th grade, students who wish to continue their education must take a high school entrance exam. The more prestigious the school, the harder the test. Unlike American school, some of the most prestigious schools in Japan are the public ones. Most likely, due to Makoto's obvious intelligence and ability, it is likely Shinonome High is one of the more difficult schools to enter (which also means that Nanami and Jinnai must also be quite gifted as well.)

The school is about three stories tall in most places and the campus is quite large. Not only does it contain the actual classrooms, but there is also a sports fieldhouse, outdoor sports fields, tennis courts, and soccer fields. Indeed, Shino High offers students a lot and expects a lot from its students.

Like most Japanese public schools, there is a strict dress code and the students must wear a uniform. The young men wear dark blue suits with a white dress shirt and red tie. The young ladies sport a uniform that consists of a green pleated skirt, a tan sports coat over a white dress shirt and a blue-gray tie (Very chic, if you ask me.)

As stated before, Shino High allows students to partake in several activities and there are many diverse types of clubs ranging from sports like baseball to activities such as mountain climbing (Which currently has no members, so Fujisawa-sensei would like you to sign up today.) It is rare for students to belong to more than one club (mainly because of a student's commitments to not only the club, but also to their studies) but students like Nanami are able to find a balance by helping various clubs from time to time (like when she was paid by the broadcast club to expose her own brother's chicanery.)

Finally, the most important thing to know about Shino High is that the faculty and students take school pride seriously. The honor of their school is reflected in all that they do and say. Unfortunately, Jinnai's actions in El-Hazard have probably given the school a serious black eye and Fujisawa has almost had more than one heart attack because of several misunderstandings involving Makoto and Alielle.
